What are Social Stories?

Social Stories are short stories that can be just writing or it can also contain pictures to help a child understand what the story is saying. When used correctly these stories can help a child make sense of the rules and expectations of the day. For most people understanding social cues and predicting what is Socially Appropriate comes easy. Using a Social Story for a child who has a deficit in this area is crucial to there developing social skills.

In order for a child to develope socially appropriate behaviors these social stories must be used consistantly. Some children have high anxiety from social situations, using a Social Story can make a huge difference in their lives.

Social Stories can be used for any sitation that is needed. For example to reinforce rules at home,or school, reinforcing daily hygiene, or helping in situations outside the home such as a visit to the doctor.

Social Stories are for anyone who needs help with Social situations.
